Ugliest and Funniest Caterpillar i have ever found

Hi .. i m from borneo.

Sitting on my porch, i saw 2 dead ..spiders ? or were they dead flowers falling onto "under" a leaf ?

Hoping it was a spider and not dead .. maybe i could snatch some photos ..

and what the .. it's not dead and it's not a spider either !

It's the biggest MITE flashed for a second through my mind. And tons of them on the plant !

On closer look ... ha ha ha ... They are just caterpillars.

It can flip over its thorny-fan-out tail to cover its body.

I picked up one and show it to my spouse and "YUCK ! Get it AWAY from ME ! It's the most UGLY thing .. OUT ! OUT !"

I guess i have to wait till it become a moth before i can identify it.

Any idea ?

    Hi

I'm not an expert, however I don't think it's a caterpillar. I'd put my money on it being the larva of a beetle, possibly a Tortoise Beetle of some sort.

Although the larva in the example below isn't exactly the same as yours, it does show you what is going on here. The larva uses its faeces as a camouflage.

    See the link below.
