I am desperate for these bugs to be identified to know the best wasy of treating them.
I noticed them in the loft insulation over a year ago when we moved into our house. They didnt seem to move so thought nothing of it.
2 weeks ago i boarded my loft out and re-laid the insulation around. Now these tiny black bugs are everywhere and starting to find them in the house. I have also now noticed they are outside the house under where all the guttering is and on the floor.
They move very slowly and do not jump.
A pest control person came around and with a very brief look said they were bird mite but after looking at pictures of bird mites am not convinced.
Would be very greatful for any info about them ( how long they live for, reproduce, do they bite?)
They are mites (Acari/Acarina). There my knowledge stops, and my "experienced guessing" starts: They look like they could belong in the order Oribatida. If so, they feed on decaying matter and fungal hyphae and are numerous in nature where they are important decomposers. If they are found indoors it could indicate mould.
