I found this fossil on the beach at Hornsea, East Yorkshire today. Can anyone provide an ID please?
Being absolutely clueless, I can't help but think that it looks somewhat like a fragment of a belemnite rostrum (althogh flattened - but why care about details?). The size of it might indicate something like Acroteuthis, perhaps?
Thanks for the suggestion. The fossil appears to have five flattened sides. Each side seperated by an inlaid ridge. It is the flattened sides which are puzzling me.
