As you will probably be aware by know I've been out taking rather a lot of pictures recently and I'm now going through and trying to ID anything I'm not sure about (thanks to all of you who have helped so far it is very much appreciated!)
So here I am with some Damselfly pictures which I'd like confirmed if possible please?
There's a few so I've numbered them and included what I think they are so confirmation or correction would be appreciated please?
1. Blue Tailed....
2. Common Blue...
3. Really not sure on this one Looks a bit green) but I'd guess another Blue Tailed DF....
4. Large Red....
So how have I done?
Thanks for your reply it is appreciated! I have to admit chasing them around a bit but I can be patient when I have to be!
You've amazed me with the Azure Blue I was completely wrong!!!... How can you tell the difference with the Azure / Common Blue & Blue Tailed???
I've only been on here since yesterday and learning tons already!!...
It's to do with the difference in marks on the first and second segment - the Azure has a U-shaped mark separated from the linear mark below, whereas the Common blue is a round mark joined to the mark below with a line. Also the marks on the last segment are different - the Common blue has a mark shaped like a christmas tree. I did have to check my ID guide for the Blue tail but there would not be a mark on the eigth section (it would just be blue), and the abdomen is all black.
The British Dragonfly society is here:http://british-dragonflies.org.uk/content/zygoptera-damselflies
if you are interested, and they are after records of where they are spotted,
I hope this helps,
