I took a photo of this bug on the edge of mixed woodland in Essex a few days ago. Any ideas what it could be?
This is Phyllobius pyri The Common Leaf Weevil . But I have to say WOW what a fantastic photograph. The focus and depth of field are superb. What camera and lens did you use? Is this a stacked photo? Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks so much for the help and your comments on the picture. You are correct - this is a stacked image from a combination of 6 pictures processed in photoshop with a little sharpening. Camera was a Pentax K-5 with a Tamron 90mm Macro lens mounted on a tripod.
Most importantly the little guy stayed still for a minute or so!
Lewis, this looks too big for P. pyri to me. A better match for me would be Liophloeus tessulatus.
