I have just been gardening and spotted a number of holes in the ground next to the house. Despite my weeding and digging there didnt seem to be any activity so presumed they might be old but a couple of bees ( i think) returned. Can anyone identify them and let me know if they pose a threat. I have a wife who is allergic to bee stings, 2 children who hate anything flying and a cat who trys to attack flying insects.
The museum staff seem to be on holiday at the moment so I'll hazard a guess (based on your photos). Looks like Andrena cineraria and the link below has several images and maybe you'll be able to see from them if this is what you have.
