My daughter is coming up to 2 years old and incredible curious about all the things in our garden.
She pointed out these insect larvae in a collection of water. I am sure they're very common. It'd be great to know what they are.
Thank you. These are the larvae of Gnats and Mosquitos. If you look at the surface film of the water you might see their tiny boat like clusters of eggs and sometimes you might see a gnat emerging from its pupa right on the surface.
