Hi, I found this little fellow in my garden on Saturday. at first i thought the large "spike" was at the tail end, then i realised it was at the head end. can anyone please tell me what this is??
Many thanks, Jamie
Hello There. I'll refer you to EMG's answer of a week ago:
This is a bee fly, most likely the Large Bee Fly (Bombylius major). They parasitise solitary bee larvae and fly from March/April looking for nests in which to lay their eggs.
This looks like the Bee Fly - Bombilius major.
There seem to be a few about at the moment - there are several ID queries already on the discussion board. Nice picture!
