hi, every so often one of these beetles lands somewhere near me in one room in the house, i think they can fly and they have a pattern similar to ladybirds but much much smaller and also brown and light brown, i have several pictures, because they're so small (about 1mm-1.5mm) it was difficult to get one in focus, but here they are
thanks if anyone can help, just curious to know what they are and where they come from,
thanks for the reply, i googled the Anthrenus verbasci and it looks like that's what it is, only thing different is i haven't seen any larvae and when i tried to squish one in some tissue the legs sort of disappeared into the shell if you like, maybe a defence mechanism? do Anthrenus verbasci do that? thanks again
EDIT i just googled that and found it seems they do tuck in the legs and head sometimes so hey ho looks like it is Anthrenus verbasci, thanks again though
Glad I found this site, it's terrific!
Apologies for the pic - as you'll know it's really hard to get in close to very small things, and also I had to use a mobile cam. Anyway...
I've got lots of these things hanging about too - I usually see them on the window ledge, or on painted walls, probably due to them showing up on those surfaces.
How does one get rid of them? I'm not worried about the carpets, as the ones we have are man made so they're more cleanable, and my clothes are of the cheapest material known to man, but it freaks me out a bit that they're sleeping with me...it probably shouldn't, but it does!
Do they cause a lot of issues?
Interestingly, I was looking after my dads house, which is only a few miles away, and they were knocking about there too. He doesn't have kids bringing in insects attached to them either (except for mine), and I know their house is a darn sight cleaner than mine.
So I wonder if they're just a fact of life, or whether south Manchester is soon to be taken over.....
I just got a minute to read previous entries, and there are a lot on this.
I've not got many, 12 is probably right.
They're quite cool really, but I'm happy I know they are normal, not infesting the smelly cat or the smellier furniture.
I'll lob them out of the window, they seem to want to be outside anyway.
