My son found this tooth in the sand at the pier in Bournemouth. We thought it was a shark's tooth, but I can't find any like it on the internet - the rough surface is intriguing us, and we'd love to know what creature it's from. It is approx 1 cm in length.
I believe the sand is dredged here, so it could be from anywhere!
Alas it is not a sharks tooth - but is still an interesting find. This is the moveable digit from a crabs claw - a little worn by the sea. By the size it is likely to be a species about the size of a shore crab and may well be this species.
A nice specimen for a box of curiosities - I have a few in mine.
