I have attached a picture of a bug I found while cleaning the house today - I have seen a couple of similar ones before but managed to catch this one - you can see my index finger to give you an idea of the size of it. It was fairly fast moving and saw it on the carpet although have seen similar ones on the wall too.
It has long protruding feelers at the head end and a couple of smaller ones at the end that almost look like a tail.
From the image it is hard to tell whether it is a silverfish, Lepisma saccharina, or a firebrat, Thermobia domestica. The silverfish is common in homes, while the less common firebrat prefers warmer places like bakeries. On this page you can read about both. The silverfish have shorter antennae and cerci (the bristles at the rear end) and is silvery, not mottled brown and yellowish.
