Anyone know what this is?
I saw it when I was on my way to drop of my daughter at play school.
I just had to go back and bring my camera
It was sitting in the middle of It's web when i first saw it.
When i got back it was rushing to get away, i picked it up with a stick, and placed it back in the web when the pictures was taken.
I think this is another Araneus diadematus or quadratus like the red specimen you found on the banana farm a few weeks ago. They are very interesting in that they both have very similar, sparse markings if not colours and I wonder if they are a particular Cypriot type.
Have done some serious searching to find out about this spider today.
Because of the shape and markings ( +size ) I am really eager to see what it is..
the only thing i have found was the Cat-Faced Spider which had a lot of similarities,
but the once you came up with had a lot of similarities to.
Cat-Faced Spider picture:
Yes, although quite closely related the Cat Faced Spider Araneus gemmoides (which I keep confusing with Cyrtophora citricola I saw on Corfu two years ago) has the 'Klingon' bumps on its abdomen. I am quite often reminded that I am not a spider expert and I wonder if someone like Jaguarondi might be able to cast any light on local variation in spider types and colouring.
I Will take my camera with me and go up to see if i can find it or another one of the same tomorrow.
to take a better shot of the epigyne.
My camera isn't that great when it comes to macro photos, but i usually get okay results even if its only a compact camera
Today its to much wind.. Looks like whipped cream on the ocean
If not spoken before the weekend, You guys have a great weekend.
