Does anyone know which tiny spider species created this web on some wood in my back garden in Essex. The hole is a few mm's wide. It is a fascinating web, which I have never seen before.
Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Danny Harris

That's a typical Segestria web. If it's in a tree both S. florentina and S. senoculata are possible, but they're big spiders when adult so it would be a young one. Maybe you could entice it using a fine blade of grass on one of the trip lines - I've never tried that with Segestria though.
