It is a member of the Libellulidae family (chaser, darter and skimmer dragonflies). It must be one of the darters, but it's difficult to say which. Even here in Britain darters (genus Sympetrum) are difficult to tell apart. Your photos don't show all of the insect's abdomen. A frontal view of the head would be important for the identification of British species. This being an Indian dragonfly, I think we should be safe to say it's just a darter.
