This yellow bee was unfortunately found dead in our porch a couple of days ago. It has a white tail. It is just over 16mm long but is curved round so could naturally be a bit longer.
My best guess would be that it is a male Bombus lucorum. I found these two websites that may help with your id www.bumblebee.org/NorthAmerica.htm and http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/forums/insects-and-invertebrates/55008-bombus-lucorum-male-hairy.html.
Hope this helps,
Thank you Chesca,
Your reply agrees with one from the bee expert in the Lincolnshire Naturalists' Trust. I took the dead bee to him and he said it was the yellowest White-tailed Bumble Bee he had ever seen!
Your website suggestions are very useful.
