Strange Leaf-emulating insect in Languedoc

Can anyone help identify this insect? It is about 2.5-3cm long andhas six smooth black legs under the lower fringe, which I could not photograph.

Super duper - dead leaf mimicry does not come much better than this.

This is the superb Lappet moth, Gastropacha quercifolia (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae), which is not a common moth in the UK, local in the south and south east. Probably more widespread in France.
