Britain's coastline is a great place to explore our natural environment. The seashore supports a huge diversity of animal and plant life, living in a range of ecosystems from rock pools to cliff faces and from sand dunes to strandlines (high water marks). The motion of the sea often brings unusual species here, from all over the world's seas and not just from other parts of Britain.
Discuss seashore life here and ask the experts for help identifying your finds including seaweeds, crabs, shells and animal bones. What unusual life might you find?
We are a team of Museum scientists who run the Identification and Advisory Service. Our special interests include fossils, rocks, plants, insects and other creatures and we are dedicated to answering your natural history questions.
