Gino Nearns

Visiting from: Department of Biology, Museum of Southwestern Biology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque

Working with: Max Barclay, Coleoptera Collections Manager; Nathan Lord

Arrived at the Museum: 27th September 2011

Leaving date: 8th October 2011

Whilst at the museum, aside from his own research Gino idenitifed three drawers of Neo-tropical Lamiines from the Martin Cooper Collection which is a great contribution to Coleoptera collections enhancement.

Research interests:

Gino is a Phd candidate (Systematics and Ecology of Longhorned Beetles (Cerambycidae)) at the University of New Mexico in the Miller lab.

His interests are in the systematics and biodiversity of longhorned beetles: researching phylogenetic relationships among Cerambicyd taxa considering morphological, molecular, and ecological data.

Ongoing research includes a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the subfamilies Parandrinae and Prioninae, developing Lucid identification keys to the subfamilies and tribes of longhorned beetles, and describing 20+ new species of Onciderini from French Guiana.
