Matt identified over 2,300 species of Lucanidae from the Museums' accession material. There was particular improvement in the Ochodaeidae, where all historical generic placements were corrected and in some cases, await publication.
This was all achieved on a collections enhancement grant.

Research interests:
Matt is interested in the phylogeny, ecology, and taxonomy of New World scarab beetles, and higher-level classification of Lucanidae. as well as the phylogeny, ecology, and behavior of the Euphoriina (Cetoniinae) and Aphodiini (Aphodiinae) and systematics of Glaresidae and Ochodaeidae.
