Nathan Lord

Visiting from: Department of Biology, Museum of Southwestern Biology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque

Working with: Max Barclay, Coleoptera Collections Manager; Gino Nearns

Arrived at the Museum: 27th September 2011

Leaving date: 8th October 2011

Whilst at the museum, Nathan worked on Bothrideridae and Colydiidae and made a great contribution to Coleoptera collections enhancement.

A selection of undetermined material in the Bothrideridae accessions now identified to genus level by Nathan; including Sosylus.

Research interests:

Nathan is a PhD candidate at the University of New Mexico in the Kelly Miller Lab

His PhD thesis is on the Systematics of Cylindrical Bark Beetles (Zopheridae; Colydiinae) and Bothriderid Beetles (Bothrideridae).

His research intersts are on taxonomy and systematics of the beetle families Zopheridae (incl. Colydiinae) which are fungus feeders but can also predate on bark beetles, and Bothrideridae, which are both fungal feeders and ectoparasites of wood-boring beetle larvae and pupae, potentially serving as biological control agents for destructive wood-boring pests.
