Summer form

In the summer form of the adult, f. natalensis, the wings 

  • are a vivid red colour on both upper and undersides. 
  • have a black margin 
  • have a series of solid black discal spots on both wings, and on both wing surfaces. 
  • the basal area on the underside is black 
  • with a speckling of 4 lighter orange patches

Males and females are alike.
