This is a fairly rare crinoid fossil and is only really found within the Sinemurian rocks around Lyme Regis.

It may be very numerous in localised beds and in one such horizon they are so common that the rocks are named the Pentacrinite bed. It can be found in sea cliff exposures of Black Ven and along Stonebarrow beach.

Over-collection of fossil sites is the only real danger however with the soft cliffs being continually eroded new material may frequently be found. Fossil collecting should only be carried-out following the Jurassic heritage coasts code of conduct. For code of conduct of fossil hunting please go to the Jurassic Coast website.

Great care should be taken when fossil collecting, check tide times and always be aware of the danger of rock falls. It is always best to go as part of an organised group.
