This species occurs in Paraguay, southern Bolivia, Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and northern Argentina.
There is some suggestion that this species prefers open, grassy, and often wet habitats.
It has been found in wet riparian habitats where the species constructs nests in a variety of situations such as in tree holes and among clusters of bromeliads (Gardner, 2007).
Presumably largely insectivorous, no published data exists that can be unequivocally attributed to this species (Smith, 2009).
