Molecular analyses

Preliminary molecular data suggest that I. sp. and Tamania jacquelinae are more closely related to one another than either of them is to I. donegani (Huertas & Lees, unpublished data). This suggests that Idioneurula is likely to be paraphyletic as presently constituted in light of this description and assuming I. sp.'s eventual description in the genus Idioneurula, supporting the transfer of T. jacquelinae to Idioneurula.

There is insufficient evidence at present to determine the sister species of I. donegani due to the lack of a sample of I. erebioides. However, we suspect tentatively due to biogeographical and morphological considerations that I. erebioides is I. donegani's sister species.
