The shell of living Rasta lamyi is

  • bivalve  
  • around 4-5 cm in size
  • covered with a soft shaggy coating 
  • has long thin extensions coming off the shell
    • In detail these extensions are  narrow tubes

The animal has a long cylindrical foot and large gills.

Apart from Rasta lamyi only one other species is known, Rasta thiophila, which lives on the other side of the Indian Ocean off the coast of Western Australia.
