Roelandt Savery (1576-1639)
The Dodo, undated
Oil on canvas, 96 x 116 cm.
Roelandt Savery is known to have completed a number of paintings
of the Dodo during the seventeenth century. His paintings
provide a wonderful record of this fascinating bird, which
humans drove to extinction. In this painting the Dodo is clearly
the main subject of the artwork and is surrounded by other
exotic creatures.
