The 6 timelines presented here are intended to aid students interested in pursuing a chronological or historical study of some of the cultivated plants from this book. More information about timelines

Timelines are accessed by selecting TIMELINES from the menu bar, or by selecting the timelines image on the home page.

  • Select a time period from the diagram to show it in more detail.
  • The selected time period will now appear showing significant time points as small black dots on the individual crop timelines. Moving your pointer over a dot will display a brief title for the corresponding section of text. Select the dot to reload the page and display the text associated with the time point in the right-hand panel.
  • At this point you may select another time point, or click the 'explore timeline' link to jump into the text for the appropriate crop at the currently-selected time point. The corresponding section of text will be highlighted.
  • Note that you may use the small arrows at the start and finish of each highlighted section so more to the previous or next time point, allowing you to navigate the entire timeline.
  • The heading at the top left of the page will indicate the time period (eg - 'stone age') of the current time point. Smaller text below and to the right maintains links back to the period in which you started the investigation, and back to the specific starting point of the investigation.
  • You may also explore each plant using the chapter headings and buttons to the left of the page. Note that time points will not be highlighted if you do this, but you will still be able to return to the period or time point at which the investigation was started using the links described above.
