Origins of cultivation
Tomatoes are all native to the dry areas of the western coasts of South America and so it is logical to assume that cultivation first began there. However, the origins of tomato cultivation are unknown, although seeds have been found in many pre-Columbian archaeological sites in dry coastal South America.
