SWEET POTATO

Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam. (Convolvulaceae).

First given its scientific by Carolus Linnaeus as Convolvulus batatas in 1753, from plants grown in George Clifford's garden in the Netherlands.

Originally from Central America and Mexico, not known from the wild.

Life form: perennial vine.

Parts used: edible tubers.

Ploidy level: auto hexaploid.
