PEPPER - a spice

Piper nigrum L. (Piperaceae).

Given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753; black pepper was described as coming from India.

Native to India, usually in montane forests.

Life form: herbaceous to slightly woody vine.

Parts used: seeds used as seasoning.

Ploidy level: diploid.
