RYE

Secale cereale L. (Poaceae).

Given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753, from plants cultivated in northern Europe.

Native to western or central Asia, rye is now cultivated in temperate and subtropical zones worldwide.

Life form: annual grass.

Parts used: seed used as grain.

Ploidy level: diploid.
