PEAS
Pisum sativum L. (Fabaceae).
Given their scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753; he gave their habitat as growing in agricultural fields.
Native to the Near East and around the Mediterranean, there are two subspecies with slightly different distributions.
Life form: annual herb.
Parts used: seeds used as grain (pulse); stems occasionally used as forage for animals.
Ploidy level:
diploid.
