OLIVE - Edible oils
Olea europaea L. (Oleaceae).
Given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753, the olive was known in cultivation and Linnaeus had seen plants in George Clifford's garden in the Netherlands.
Native to the forests around the Mediterranean.
Life form: long-lived tree.
Parts used: fruits pressed to extract oil; also eaten by humans.

diploid.
