CORK

Quercus suber L. (Fagaceae).

Given its scientific name by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 using materials collected in southern Europe and grown in botanical gardens.

Native to the Mediterranean regions of southern France, Spain and Portugal, and northern Africa.

Life form: long-lived tree.

Parts used: bark.

Ploidy level: diploid.
