Citrus sinensis Osbeck (Rutaceae) - the sweet orange.
First given its scientific name by Pehr Osbeck in 1765.
Originally from South-East Asia, most citrus species are chance hybridisations and recombinations of several wild
genomes, and are thus no longer wild species.
Life form: tree.
Parts used: edible fruit; oils from fruit peel and leaves; leaves used in Oriental cooking.
Ploidy level:
diploid.
