CHICLE
Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen (Sapotaceae).
First described scientifically as Achras zapota by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 from an illustration made by the French botanist Charles Plumier in 1703, purportedly based on West Indian plants. The Dutch botanist Pieter van Royen placed it in the
genus Manilkara in 1953.
Native to the forests of Mexico and Mesoamerica.
Life form: tropical forest tree.
Parts used: white milky sap.
