Descriptions of fishes from the Upper Rio Negro - Curimata species

Manuscript notes on the fish Curimatus schomburkii from the Rio Negro in South America, dated November 1851.
This page is from Wallace's field notebook in which he recorded measurements and descriptions of the fish he caught and sketched. This entry describes the sketch of the fish Curimatus schomburkii. This specimen must have been a remarkable sight as Wallace describes the colouration: 'pale golden olive, silvery with faint metallic green tinges below'. The details make the fish come to life, especially since the actual specimens were lost in a shipwreck while Wallace was on his way home from Brazil.
