Photograph of Wallace as an old man in his garden, undated, after 1900.
In this tiny photograph, Wallace stands proudly in his garden next to a large pond. Wallace's passion was for gardening. In many letters to his daughter Violet he described how he was developing his garden.
Since this photograph is undated, we do not know which house he lived in at the time. In 1891 he wrote a letter with details about building a new pond at Parkstone, Dorset. However, Wallace looks rather old, with a long, white beard and spectacles, so he could be pictured in the garden of his final house, Old Orchard, in Broadstone, Dorset, where he lived from 1902 to 1913.
