How to do the survey
To take part in the urban tree survey and send us information that is useful for scientific research, just follow these instructions.
1. Get ready
- Read how to do the survey PDF (0.3 MB)
- Decide where you are going to survey trees. In your garden? Or local park?
- Print out copies of the survey form PDF (0.3MB).
- Either print out the tree identification key (28 pages) PDF (1.2 MB) OR you can also use the interactive key on a smartphone or tablet.
2. Survey a tree
- Identify each tree with the help of the identification key.
- Note the date and each tree's name, site and location on a survey form.
- If you can, also note the size or girth of each tree's trunk, an estimate of its height and if it has flowers or fruit, and take some photos.
3. Send us your results
- Go online to the record your results page and follow the instructions.
