A view of the coast southwards from Botany Bay, with the main features labelled in black ink. The sea in the foreground occupies approximately the lower quarter of the composition and the sky the upper three-quarters, with the land in a narrow band between. The land is predominantly grey-green in colour, and edged in some places with white cliffs marked with vertical grey lines. The sea is represented by a gradated wash of blue through pale yellow to pink, overlaid in the foreground with irregular grey lines and brush marks creating a tonal effect. The drawing is underlined with a black ink base-line, and inscribed with the title in black ink in the margin below.
