hide detailed image description

Three views of islands, the two entitled the Salvages arranged alongside each other at the top of the sheet, with a panoramic view of the Island of Tenerife below. Each drawing is framed with a black ink border and separated by bands of pink wash which contain the titles and navigational information. The top two drawings show distant views of islands on the horizon, coloured grey. The view below shows the rocky coast of Tenerife, coloured grey and modelled with darker shading, with the main peak protruding above a layer of white and pale blue cloud in the centre of the composition and the extremeties of the island receding to left and right. The seas are represented by a grey-blue gradated wash overlaid with grey horizontal lines, and the skies by pale blue washes towards the top. The drawings are framed with a thick black ink line and a triple-banded border, the central band of which is coloured with a pink wash. Most of the outer band appears to have been lost through the drawing having been cropped.
