George Raper had an adventurous career in the British
navy. He served on the First Fleet which in 1787,
set sail transporting convicts and marines to establish
the first European settlement in Australia.
Raper used his artistic skills to record the animals,
plants, landscape and people that he observed on
his journey. This remarkable collection provides
a wonderful historical record of early European
contact with Australia.
