| George Olson
(1936-)
Common fleabane (Erigeron philadelphicus)
Watercolour and pencil on paper, 560 x 450 mm.
Born in Michigan, George Olson is a much-respected
American artist who has often visited London to
see and use the art collections of this museum and
to carefully observe the plants within the gardens
at Kew and the Chelsea Physic Garden.
Olson taught botanical art to students at the College
of Wooster in Ohio from 1963 until his retirement
in the 1990's, whilst developing his own unique
style of illustration, often depicting his favourite
tallgrass prairie plants, which have been so fundamental
to his life's work.
