Paradise flycatcher by Tickell

Samuel Richard Tickell (c.1809-1875)
Paradise Flycatcher (Tchitrea paradisi), 1848.
Watercolour on paper, 225 x 180 mm.

Samuel Tickell drew these watercolours of Indian birds while serving in the British Army. He also drew fascinating sketches of ordinary people in rural areas of India during the mid-nineteenth century. Tickell had hoped that one day he would publish these drawings, unfortunately this never happened.
