John Fleming (1747-1829) was a physician and was stationed
for many years in India where he developed a passion for plants.
Fascinated by their use in medicine and their economic potential,
he collected many specimens from around the country. His collection
of copies of watercolours is a remarkable record of his fascination
for the great diversity of plants to be found in India.
A staggering 1,160 watercolour drawings of Indian plants
are to be found in the John Fleming collection.
