unknown
Hoopoe, c.1833.

During the 1830s, Lady Bentinck is believed to have commissioned
a collection of drawings of birds from the Himalayas while
she was living in India. Her husband , Lord William Henry
Cavedish Bentinck was Governor General of India from 1827
to 1835. These outstanding drawings by a local artist represent
one of the earliest collections depicting some of the birds
