Georg Dionysius Ehret is one of the great names in the history
of botanical art with his drawings providing a major contribution
to eighteenth century botany. He illustrated strange exotic
plants, which had been recently introduced to Europe, from
around the world. In particular he drew unusual plants that
had been carefully grown and nurtured in the hothouses of
wealthy plant enthusiasts.
