Pieter Cramer, a rich eighteenth century wool merchant used
his wealth to indulge his collecting obsession. He adored
colourful butterflies and moths that had been collected from
around the world and engaged the artist Gerrit Wartenaar Lambertz
(fl. 1775) to draw his fine collection.
Over the centuries his highly prized specimens have mostly
perished drawings of them survive as a record of his amazing
passion for collecting.
