most famous British naturalists, Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913).
An important natural history collector, author and explorer,
today he is best known for the fact that independently of
Charles Darwin he developed ideas about evolution. Wallace’s
conclusions encouraged Darwin to publish his own theory of
evolution in the famous book, On the Origin of Species.
