Nicholas Aylward Vigors (1785-1840)
Citron-throated Toucan (Ramphastos citreolaemus),

Oil on canvas, 48 x 62 cm.
This attractive nineteenth century painting of a Toucan,
was based on a live specimen (a pet) belonging to Nicholas
Vigors. An eminent zoologist, he was a co-founder of the Zoological
Society and well respected ornithologist and politician.
